Funniest things overheard at Carolina Shinefest + Recap!

It's always fun to go to festivals and shows to display our work. We hear all sorts of comments about the images that we have with us, as well as comments on our tutus and other goodies that we have under our tent. Sometimes they are directly to us, sometimes people say them as they're passing by. I laughed A LOT this weekend, dispite the nasty heat, and I wanted to share a couple of the funniest things overheard at our tent :)

-Husband says to wife, "Want me to buy you a tutu?"
Wife retorts, "Only if you'll wear it when we get home."

-Woman walks by our tent with friend and says about me, "I though she was a mannequin."

-Six different people passing by the tent talking about a newborn image, "That photo was staged. I've never seen a baby do that."

-Couple walking by the tent and looking at hair flowers, girl says to guy, "Your ex would love those."

-Husband says to wife, "Let's go. I ain't sweatin' up my new hat or I'll have to throw it away."

-Guy shopping at t-shirt tent beside us, "Got any tanks left?"
Vendor answers, "No. Just t-shirts."
Guy says, "That's okay. I have scissors at home."

This was our first festival that we've ever done in July. Overall it was a good time. Extremely HOT on Saturday - 99 degrees and humid. Even with us constantly chugging water, we both had signs of dehydration before the end of the day - and we were so sore and worn out when we woke up on Sunday to get ready. Everyone just looked SO hot - and not in a good way, lol - flushed, rosy cheeks, sweaty, pale. Quiet. Everyone tried to take cover in the shade from the buildings downtown. Around 2pm, the sky clouded over and we had a 15 minute storm, which cooled it off at least 15 degrees. When the rain stopped, the atmosphere totally changed. People were gathering in the streets talking and laughing. Laughter. You could just hear laughter. Which meant that people were having fun! Kids were playing and giggling. It was crazy. We had about an hour of the cooler weather before the sun came back out and then it was nasty humid. Sunday was a lot cooler. The high was 84 degrees, but around 4pm, it rained. And rained. And rained. As hot as it was, I didn't mind getting caught in the rain. I had prepared for it, so I just covered all my prints and canvases, pulled everything to the middle of the tent, and hung out (with a yummy sweet tea from Fuzzy's that was set-up across from us). So the festival was cut short by about an hour. Overall, the crowd was huge (thousands!) and we met lots of wonderful people, booked several sessions, got to see some of our clients, and almost sold out of hair flowers completely! That means we'll be making a run to Hobby Lobby this week so I can re-stock the studio and stock up for our next festival in a couple weeks :)

I can't wait to do it again. I also overheard that it may possibly be moved to May or September (YAY!) next year.

My buddy is 3! { WINSTON SALEM CHILDRENS PHOTOGRAPHER }

I can't believe my little buddy "M" is 3! He is the cutest (I LOVE that red hair!) and always makes me giggle when he comes to the studio - this time was for his 3rd birthday and he just was NOT into being a model, so his favorite thing to tell me was BYE :) He did enjoy playing with blocks and watching cars go by on our front porch. I got the cutest shot when a loud motorcycle passed by and little "M" covered his ears...

What's a Portrait Party?
It's a fun get-together with a bunch of girlfriends with children for a playdate, and have us come to one location for mini sessions. With us not having to travel to more than one location, we can offer shorter sessions at a reduced session fee. These are becoming especially popular at birthday parties and sleepovers! One mom "hosts" the portrait party (the host gets a complimentary session!), and organizes it by having her friends book, decide on a theme (if any - or we can just do regular portraits), picks a location, and collects the session fees from her girlfriends (which are due one week prior to the party). The more girlfriends you can get to book, the more goodies you receive! On the day of the party, we meet you and your friends, shoot all the sessions back-to-back and then we handle the rest for you :)

Host perks include a FREE 15 minute mini session, 8x10 Fine Art Print
of your choice, plus a FREE 5x7 Signature Print for each friend booked
(book 5 friends, get 5 FREE 5x7 Signature Prints!), and FREE tutu with

How it works:
- Choose a day that you and 3 or more of your friends can get together
- Choose a fun, outdoor location in the Triad area or at our studio

or NO THEME
- Order tutus 3 weeks prior to party (if Ballet Bebes tutu theme is chosen)

The Fine Print: All sessions and tutus must be paid in full 1 week prior to party.
Sessions are limited to 15 minutes per child - no exceptions - and will produce around 10 final images to choose from. Minimum of 4 participants including host.

BE FAIR. If your child is fussy or feeling under the weather, please reschedule, as it would not be fair to spill over into your friends’ time slots and cut their session times short.
Children 6 months (sitting up) and older only.

Sweet Little "C" { WINSTON SALEM NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER }

Okay, I'm starting to consider adding "guaranteed nap after" to our session info :) Little "C"'s mommy told me he slept for over three hours after they left the studio, too!

Little "C" was so sweet! He was very content, and very alert for just two weeks! He refused to fall asleep in the studio, but still cozied up in our fuzzy blankets in an egg basket, and enjoyed being swaddled and bundled up like a little burrito in a new cheesecloth that we got in last week. I am SO in love with the nest shot that I got below!

"T" is 1! { WINSTON SALEM BABY PHOTOGRAPHER }

"T" came to the studio on his birthday for his 1 year session. His mom always has the cutest ideas, and she brought a fish bowl and a couple of goldfish for him to play with :) He was really excited about the fish! I'm not sure if he enjoyed trying to catch them or just playing in the water most, but he had a blast - and I was told that he had worn himself out so much that he took a three hour nap after he got home! We also did some fun indoor shots with some VERY realistic (and very durable - even survived a one year old throwing them numerous times!) cupcakes - little "T" was tricked by them and attempted to take a bite...several times :)

*Don't worry - we promise no goldfish were harmed during the creation of little "T"'s cute portraits!

NEW PROPS IN! { Winston Salem Newborn Photography }

Yay! We have a ton of new newborn photography props in the studio! I just wanted to share a few of them for now :-)



We have furs, blankets, cheesecloths, fringe blankets, a nest, cherry blossoms, a bed, a sock monkey, an antique egg basket, new hats, skinny headbands, and lots of other goodies!

And we're getting in fun stuff for maternity sessions, as well as children's sessions, too!

The "D" Family { Winston Salem Children's Photographer }

I really enjoyed meeting and working with the "D" family! We did a mix of indoor shots, as well as outdoor shots (I loved the outdoors shots!) and the children were the cutest! "A" reminded me a lot of my twelve year old son, and little "R" had the most amazing blue eyes! I am so in love with the shots of the two of them together below! I actually have one displayed in one of our frame samples in the studio now :)
