Harper's Cake Smash { winston-salem nc }

 

How can Miss Harper already be having a cake smash and celebrating her first birthday (remember her newborn session)?  Time slips by way too fast.  I remember when I was young, the entire school week, I couldn't wait for Friday and the weekend to arrive.  My mom would always ask me why I was wishing my life away!  I didn't realize at the time how fast time escapes you - I see now why I would always hear my parents talking about me and my brothers and sister growing up so fast, or how we should still be tiny or in Elementary School!  I feel the same now about my son, who is going to be a Senior this year!  YES!  A Senior!  I feel that the past ten years have just flown by and he should still be in 3rd or 4th grade, playing Sonic and Mario video games and asking me to make him some Mac & Cheese.  Yes, my friends, time flies by.  So cherish every moment with your littles because they won't be little long!    

Miss Harper came in for her cake smash session and her mom brought lots of colorful props and a gorgeous cake for Harper to play in!  Harper was unsure at first about the cake, but I think she began to enjoy it after a while.  She made some of the cutest faces eating her cake and I laughed the entire time.  Although most of it was played with instead of eaten, Harper still had fun and we captured some beautiful images of this little sweetie for her first birthday :)

Baby Maddox { winston-salem newborn photographer }

Meet Little Maddox...

This sweet little guy came in for a newborn session and he was such a treat to spend the morning with!  Maddox's mom liked neutrals and gray and blue, and she brought some props with her including his furry little elephant for him to snuggle with in a couple of images.  Oh my, talk about cuteness - it was the same size as Maddox and it made for an adorable shot!  We also swaddled him in a handmade blanket and he flashed a quick smile for us and he curled up for a sleepy shot with a handmade hat that she brought, too  :)

Tank and his Humans { pet photographers winston salem }

 

An evening with Tank and his humans...

Tank was such a sweet boy.  And he loved his burgers.  His mom contacted me for a session with the family and focusing on Tank due to his quickly failing health and I connected with her in an amazing way.  I had just lost my sweet Daisy Mae a month prior and we had been through so many of the same things, and I was able to be there for her and that helped me with the healing process as well.  It's so hard losing a pet - no matter how long you've had them, they become family members and it's agonizing making decisions about their health and always second-guessing yourself and wondering if you could have done things differently!  Tank was so sweet the day that I met him - his mom brought burgers with her for bribing - his favorite treat - and they totally worked!  We were able to do some family shots with everyone, some cute shots like the photo below of Tank and his mom with her holding a photo of Tank as a puppy, and even a photo of him with his little fur brother, Jack.  Tank's mom is getting married, so we were even able to sneak in a few engagement shots incorporating Tank, too!  I know Tank was loved and had an amazing long life - especially for his breed - and I truly enjoyed spending that evening with him and his family, and being able to photograph some special moments for them to keep his memory alive forever.  Dogs are so special to me and have such a huge impact on their humans' lives - I love meeting every dog that I come across and hearing their story, as told by their human.  I especially love being able to capture their personalities, which are so individual, just like humans, and have the ability to stop just a brief moment of time for their humans to look back and remember their loving eyes, wagging tails, happy faces and sometimes even smiles.  Since the session, Tank has crossed Rainbow Bridge and is now at peace, and is so very missed.

Anna turns Two! { kids photography winston-salem }

Anna is TWO already!  We've been working with Anna and her sweet big brothers for several years now and they are always so fun to see!  All three of them have the sweetest personalities and are just a treat to work with!  Anna has grown and developed a fun personality and she's so gorgeous with her light blonde hair and blue eyes!  Anna played with huge daisies for her session in the studio and her mom brought the absolute cutest straw hat - that Anna refused to wear - but still made for some cute shots!

"A" & Her Little Man { winston salem photographers }

A while back, "A" brought her little guy to the studio for a Mommy & Me session.  Everything was all fine and dandy when I booked her session, but the day before, I got nailed with a nasty lower respiratory infection that resulted in bronchitis and two weeks of antibiotics!  Ugh!  I never ever want to risk getting my little clients sick, so I had planned to reschedule her session, but my husband offered to shoot and meet with clients for me for a few days until I was back up and on my feet, and he did a FABULOUS job with this session!  I love being able to rely on that man.  I'm super picky about my business and mostly do everything myself because I am always afraid to let anyone else do it - I guess I have that fear that they won't do things the same as I would.  Which is true for shooting a session, because two different photographers see things in two totally different ways and will obviously capture it differently.  A few years back, two days before our Easter Bunnies minis which happens on our craziest, most hectic weekend of the year, I had to rush to the hospital and have emergency gallbladder surgery, and I had no other option besides conceding and giving my husband the opportunity to take control of things.  And he handled it perfectly!  I am so lucky to have my husband and best friend as a business partner and be able to trust him to take care of business things if something happens and I can't, or fill in for me if I have to take a sick day :)
